Exaggerated Masks from grade 5

Students created masks that depicted an emotion. By changing the proportion of their faces, students exaggerated their masks in the style of the Greek theater.

Here is the first bunch of prints that the 10 member printmaking club made this year. We used a variety of techniques including additive, subtractive, and screen print to create colorful prints.

Kindergarten painted Lunch

After reading a story about the colors of food, students painted their own lunches. There are lots of healthy fruits and vegetables on their plates.





Matisse Still Life

Grade 2 recently created still lifes in the style of Henri Matisse. Students created multiple patterns and drew a special object of their choosing.

Ms. Lendacky visits the Visionary Art Museum

This past Sunday I took some time to visit a local museum. The American Visionary Art Museum houses art made by artists who are self taught (they did not go to a special school to learn art). My favorite part of the museum was the kinetic sculpture gallery. Here are a few photos of outside the building (no photos were allowed inside).

Sunderland goes to the Gallery

On Thursday, February 12th, the CalvART Gallery in Prince Frederick welcomed Sunderland students and their artwork. The gallery features the artwork of local artists and includes a special gallery that highlights the work of students.

Until the end of the month, the student gallery will feature the work of Sunderland fourth graders. The students created Andy Warhol inspired portraits of a variety of animals.

Third grade Fauves

Fauvists used the colors of "wild beasts" to change the way people looked at their art. Students in grade 3 created Fauvist landscapes.
